| This universal phrase is the polite second person plural form of the verb "to excuse." This means that it is used in a formal situation with a single person or in a formal or informal situation with two or more people. You can resort to this word if, for example, you bump into someone or step on their foot; when you are in a crowded place and you want to move past people standing in your way; when you are late for an appointment or meeting; or when you feel you have hurt someone's feelings. |
| извинете (izvinete) is also a good choice when you want to attract someone's attention and start a conversation. For instance, when you are shopping and want to ask a salesperson a question. |
