Hi BulgarianPod101 listeners!

What is your morning routine like?

Michael hi,

you might have noticed that all the words in the video are given only in Bulgarian - the word in Latin letters is the transcribed reading from Bulgarian. Unfortunately, sometimes there are some funny situations as with the word лице "face" you noticed :)

Till recently, there was not a unified way of transforming the Cyrillic letters to Latin ones, and sometimes there were variations. The ц sound sometimes used to be transcribed as "ts" or "tz", but other times as "c", hence "lice" :) The first version is currently the official one and in the most recent lessons we stick to it, as you might notice.

Thank you for being meticulous, it is essential when learning a new language, in my humble view :)

All the best,

Tina

Corinne hi,

thank you very much for the motivational note and your comment. I totally agree that learning a new language is not an easy exercise and we definitely need to congratulate ourselves on the small steps we take right. There are some words in Bulgarian from Greek, but probably not many. The two languages are in different language groups so the similarities are not so many probably.

If you have any comments or just want to practice your new Bulgarian language skills, do not hesitate and leave us a note :)

All the best,

Tina

The lesson describes лице as lice.Surely this should say face?

Hi

I'm thoroughly enjoying the lessons and as a Greek speaker it is helping a little. The language has a different cadence to other languages so Im having to put in extra hard work. And Eddie who posted below - keep going my friend, don't get caught up with what you can't say but congratulate yourself on the words you can.

Hi Elaine,

thank you very much for the note. It is quite correct. The more exact translation of "The family is eating at the table." is "Семейството се храни на масата."

Best regards,

I believe the english translation of the 4th phrase is incorrect. Семейството закусва на масата translates as the family is eating breakfast at the table OR breakfasting at the table. NOT the family is eating at the table, which could be any meal.

Hi Rene,

If I am to answer the question, I would say:

Ставам, мие си лицето и зъбите и закусвам. - I get up, wash my face and teeth, and get a breakfast.

So, I have a few suggestions here. They are just intended to make your expression sound more native :)

Бъдя се сутринта (good use of the reflexive verb:thumbsup:)

мия си зъбите и лицето и (Bulgarians would rather start with the face :)

закусвам за масата. (Bulgarian have all their meals and sit "на масата")

I hope you enjoy practicing your Bulgarian and find the comments useful.

All the best,

Tina

Hi Elena,

Thank you for posting.

Watching a video, could save your time, since it will show you many words in a relatively short time.

Both pictures & video and only pictures seem to fit well for an absolute beginner!

If you have any question, please let us know!

Thank you,

Ofelia

Hi Eddie,

Thank you for your comment.

I understand your point.

These lessons (Learn with Pictures and Videos) are meant for people who already have started studying Bulgarian and can use this as a study material to repeat and remember expressions or sentences.

So, I suggest you start with easier lessons like Absolute Beginner series for example.

Also, we do use native Bulgarian speakers but the lessons are made in a team.

Thank you again for expressing your opinion.

I hope studying Bulgarian will become easier for you

Cheers,

Iva

All of these videos are the same very difficult almost impossible to learn from. Obviously done by a Bulgarian ?

I am very disappointed this is not what I signed up to.
