Lesson 3 - How much?
This lesson's phrase is something for all of you shoppers out there. The phrase is "how much." In Bulgarian, "how much" is колко (kolko).
колко (kolko)
Let’s break it down by syllable: колко (kolko)
Let's hear it once again: колко (kolko)
Shopping at the market, at a cafeteria, or wherever depending on your spending habits, this may be an extremely high frequency phrase!
The most rudimentary way of using "how much" is pointing at something while saying kolko, but let's try and build this up, shall we?
Let's start with the expression "how much is this" which in Bulgarian is колко струва това (kolko struva tova).
The first word kolko means "how much."
Let's break down this word and hear it one more time: колко (kolko)
колко (kolko)
This is followed by струва (struva), which is the Bulgarian equivalent of the verb "cost."
струва (struva)
струва (struva)
The third word in the expression is това (tova) and means "this."
In slow tempo: това (tova)
това (tova)
Looking at the word for "this" warrants a look at the word for "that" which is онова (onova).
онова (onova)
онова (onova)
The phrase "how much is that" is колко струва онова (kolko struva onova).
колко струва онова (kolko struva onova)
колко струва онова (kolko struva onova)
Let’s break it down by syllable: колко струва онова (kolko struva onova)
Here it is once again: колко струва онова (kolko struva onova)
